|
We're in the final days before Tuesday's election! If you or anyone you know is feeling election anxiety, there are still opportunities to make a difference! -
Remind EVERYONE you know to VOTE. If they're local, remind them to drop their ballots at official ballot drop sites by Tuesday, Nov. 3 at 8 p.m. Especially remind all the very busy people you know. Find your nearest ballot box here!
-
Support the Bynum and Kotek campaigns by participating in a canvass or phone bank.
- Donate directly to a candidate to help the final days of their campaign end on a high.
-
Ballot Cure with Indivisible Oregon. They've got many phone banks planned to help North Carolina with ballot curing for their absenstee and early voters.
-
Phone bank with Seed the Vote. Our pod is back from Michigan, but our work with Seed the Vote doesn't have to end there. Let's win big in Swing Districts! Get on a phone bank to prove that people power is political power! Find a phone bank here!

Election Defense: Rapid Response |
|
|
|
Many of us in D2 have been engaged in the great work on Election Protection with Common Cause and other organizations to protect voters against intimidation and systematic disenfranchisement. While that focus will be intense through Election Day we need to start shifting toward defending the integrity of the vote count and election certification.
As MAGA and the Trump Administration become more desperate at the prospect of a Blue Wave, their rhetoric and thinly veiled threats of interference are escalating. Here in Oregon, we have built a strong system of highly skilled and professional election administration across the 36 counties and have the support of a Secretary of State and an Attorney General who have already demonstrated their ability to fight for democracy. That makes us a less attractive site for shenanigans, but we must remain vigilant.
Since we can’t know the Trump Administration’s plans, we collectively need to be ready to respond quickly and decisively to whatever they throw at us. Hope for the Best. Prepare for the Worst.
Since Oregon is unlikely to be a major target, Portland and Seattle have been designated by the No Kings coalition as “Solidarity Sites.” That means, in the event of a clear effort to subvert the election in one or more states, our job will be to hit the streets within 24-48 hours in a massive demonstration that We the People will not allow Republicans to steal the election. Protect Oregon, a coalition of more than a dozen pro-democracy organizations, is leading this Election Defense effort and, in collaboration with the national coalition, will be making the call if or when we need to activate the Rapid Response.
What this means for you: Our job doesn’t end on Nov. 3. Stay tuned in the coming weeks. If you start hearing about subversion attempts around the country, keep an eye on your email, the D2 website, Slack, and texts for a bat signal with instructions on what to do within the next 24-48 hours. We are asking everyone who receives this newsletter to take the Pledge to Defend the Vote: If a mass mobilization is called by Indivisible, I pledge to show up and bring three people with me.
The more we prepare, the less likely the authoritarians will be to risk our wrath. Stay strong. |

This week, Lars is taking on the tech oligarchs who are pulling levers in support of authoritarians. First, he's writing about Elon Musk's recent decision to restrict Ukraine's use of Starlink/Starshield, which prevented Ukraine from intercepting incoming Russian drones. Many citizens were killed or injured as a result. This clearly demonstrates that he should NOT be in control of systems related to U.S. foreign policy, especially in active war zones. Use this template to write your reps about your concerns of Musk involvement with international relations.
Then he's also writing about Meta's recent curtailment of political messaging: In Brazil's recent presidential election, and in disabling the Instagram account of the organizers of the Oct 17 U.S. No King's protest. Courts have intervened in Brazil, and earlier in Germany and Romania. In both the U.S. and Brazil situations, Meta blames automation systems - demonstrating inappropriate over-reliance on AI systems in such situations, which a company like Meta should be well aware is dangerous and irresponsible. Use this template to write your reps about Meta's using their platform to influence elections.

ICE out, groceries in! D2 Neighbors' immigrant solidarity project helps feed about 150 North Portlanders every week, and we couldn’t do it without all the ways so many contribute. Here’s another opportunity to join us — donate fresh eggs without ever leaving home. We're working with an immigrant-owned Oregon farm for this effort. To donate, follow the link below and scroll to the bottom to order as many dozen eggs as you choose, at $6.50/dozen. https://trent-family-farms.myshopify.com/
