ICYMI: County Commissioner D2 Candidate Forum |
|
|
|
Last Sunday, we held a Candidate Forum for the Multnomah County District 2 position with Multnomah Democrats. We had 6 of the 7 candidates in attendance. If you missed the forum, check out the recording to hear directly from the candidates.
It was great to see so many familiar faces, and we left ready to rank our choices with confidence. Thank you to the organizers and day of volunteers that helped the event run smoothly! |

Donuts + Democracy at No Kings!
First, thanks to everyone at D2 Neighbors and our partners D3 Indivisible and SEIU for creating a wonderful No Kings Event on October 17. My friends who attended appreciated being able to hear the speakers and music!
Our first season of working with Donuts + Democracy ended with lots of donuts on No Kings October 17!
Thanks to everyone who made it possible to share 500 donuts at No Kings on 10/17! Donuts and Democracy contacted us on Monday night to see if we wanted to receive donuts for No Kings through a special grant they had gotten. By Thursday afternoon, we had confirmed an order of 500 donuts from Annie’s for pick-up on Saturday morning.
Paul and Tia volunteered to load up 42 dozen donuts in their van and got them safely to Convention Center Plaza. Patt O and her team were already hosting D2 swag and lots of information about election protection and GOTV, but graciously made room for a pile of 10 dozen donut boxes too. The team realized that so many donuts required more active distribution, so Gerhard, Kat, and Eunice grabbed box after box of donuts and carried them through the crowd, offering free donuts to participants with vote early and thanks for being here messages.
Nora and a friend loaded up our hot pink donut wagon with another 20 doz donuts and rolled across the street to the AISES (Advancing Indigenous Science and Engineering Society) Conference. This conference is a unique event focusing on educational, professional, and workforce development for indigenous peoples of North America and the Pacific Islands in STEM. They had great conversations with young people from all over North America and the Pacific Islands, also with a vote and vote early message. Many shared what they are doing themselves in their towns and on their reservations to get out the vote. Nora reported they were enthusiastic about GOTV and appreciated our focus on reaching young voters.
Tia and Paul were determined to have every donut distributed, so when things were winding up at our No Kings, they packed up the remaining 10 doz donuts and rolled out the wagon downtown at the No Kings event on Naito Parkway. If you watched the news on Saturday night, you saw them with the pink wagon in the crowd! D2 Neighbors Indivisible ingenuity and determination never cease to amaze! Our thanks to Donuts and Democracy for including us in this nationwide donut event.

| Hens for solidarity! Eggs for all!
Here's a great opportunity for D2 Neighbors looking for an easy way to get involved in immigrant solidarity. Donate fresh eggs to families in need in North and Northeast Portland, and at the same time support an immigrant-owned Oregon farming business. Of course, you can also purchase an egg CSA subscription for yourself! The hens are free-range on organic pasture. Families receiving donated eggs are low-income and include many immigrant households who need special support right now. To donate eggs or to subscribe to the CSA, visit: https://trent-family-farms.myshopify.com/
