Last Saturday's meeting was jam-packed! We had 5 guest speakers and updates on actions from the Midterm Election team. It was a lively event that provided an opportunity for anyone wanting to take action locally or nationally in support of the midterm elections. D2 National Field Trip Recruitment
Portland D2 Neighbors Indivisible is partnering with Seed the Vote to go to Michigan this fall for election protection and canvassing!
Join us in knocking doors and campaigning for two progressive Democratic Senate candidates: Dr. Abdul El-Sayed and William Lawrence (MI-7). This is going to be an extremely competitive race, and the Voting Rights Lab heat map index shows a need for election protection in Michigan.
Seed the Vote started in Oakland in 2020 and has led 31 canvassing campaigns in 10 states and knocked on 675,000 doors since 2020! Invited by local community partners, we will participate in door-knocking, canvassing, and election protection. The first trip will be deep canvassing in late September/October, and we are hoping to make a second trip for election protection closer to November. If you missed the August meeting, you can sign up with @Nora Stern or @Saskia Hostetler Lippy on Slack. Financial assistance available if needed.
Our kickoff meeting is Wednesday, Sept. 2 at 7:00 p.m. at Double Mountain Brewery on Killingsworth. Pods are forming soon, so please sign up ASAP!

| Annual Portland D2 Neighbors Indivisible Picnic/Potluck Saturday, Sept. 12 from 1 p.m. - 4 p.m. at Daybreak Co-Housing (2525 N. Killingsworth)
D2 will provide Burritos (yum) and cold drinks (seltzer, etc.). You are invited to bring side dishes and desserts. Alcohol is OK in moderation. BYOB. We also encourage you to bring cold water in a reusable container so we are not contributing to single-use plastic waste. And, if you’re really into reducing plastic waste, you might consider bringing some reusable flatware.
This is a great opportunity to invite someone who might be interested in getting more information about Indivisible and the rewarding work we do while having a great time. We have enough chairs for the expected number of attendees, but feel free to bring extra (camp?) chairs if you feel you might need them. |

| This week, Lars has recommended two topics to contact our representatives about regarding ICE.
First, he's raising concerns about the plan to equip ICE agents with electric shock gloves. Given reports of beatings and other abuse against ICE detainees exhibiting benign behaviors such as complaining about poor medical care or rotten food, it can be EXPECTED that shock gloves will be used in similarly inappropriate situations. Use all or parts of his template to write your reps.
The second issue involves an incident where Oregon State Police have reported that persons IMPERSONATING ICE officers pulled over a car, forcibly removed the victim from their vehicle, and physically assaulted the victim in the back seat of the suspect's car. This incident factually demonstrates WHY ICE agents MUST be REQUIRED to display proper agency and personal identification. Otherwise, any person in our country might be subject to abuse by individuals with malicious purpose. Use some or all of this template to urge federal requirements that ICE agents MUST be required to display proper agency and personal identification during field operations.

| Overpass Bannering on I-5, Get Out the Vote I-5 Overpass at N. Skidmore Fridays: Sept. 4, Sept. 18, Oct. 2, Oct. 16, and Oct. 30 from 3:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.
It's time to get out the vote and show the Trump administration we will not be cowed into submission or apathy. We will be at the N Skidmore Overpass every other Friday, September 4th through October 30th.
All are welcome. We will have large banners with a message to encourage voting. Please bring your own signs and flags to wave at the evening traffic. |
