Bring on the Blue Wave! Write Postcards

Actions to win elections in 2026

Here's something you can do to help us win, why it works, and how you can participate

Action:  Writing postcards to register voters

Why it works:

Personalized messages on handwritten cards come across as more warm and trustworthy than direct-mail political appeals.  So they make folks feel more valued, and more likely to respond to the message, especially if it includes a simple call to action ("Make your voice heard!  Register to vote.").  One study showed that providing helpful info about how and when to register boosted voter turnout by 0.4 percent -- a small but significant increase, equal to or better than a door-to-door effort.  More targeted postcard campaigns can boost turnout by around 2 percent.

How you can help:

You can join Indivisible Oregon’s postcard efforts locally. They provide everything you'll need: postcards, voter addresses, suggested texts, and instructions.  They'll also provide stamps if you can't provide them yourself.  Postcard-writing can be a fun roundtable event with like-minded folks at the sessions listed below -- and it's even better if you can bring along friends!  If you'd rather write and mail postcards at home when you can fit it in, drop by one of the sessions to pick up supplies.  If you'd rather contribute money instead of, or in addition to time, your donation will help fund supplies and postage.  Anything you can contribute will help our effort, and help us win critical races in November!  (And that includes telling friends and family who might also want to participate.)
